About Eight

Eight/KAET-TV, “Arizona PBS,” is a community service of Arizona State University. Founded in 1961, KAET serves the greater Phoenix metropolitan area and other Arizona cities such as Flagstaff, Yuma and Kingman. KAET reaches nearly 80% of the state’s population and typically ranks among the Top 5 of all PBS stations in per-capita viewing. Currently located on ASU’s Tempe Campus, a new facility is under construction at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus. It is expected to open in late 2008.

Eight operates its traditional analog television channel as well as a digital service with three program channels. National programs are scheduled along with locally produced regular and special programs, including Eight’s daily public affairs program, Horizon, and the documentary series, The Arizona Collection.

ASSET is an educational outreach organization sponsored by KAET. ASSET operates a web portal dedicated to educational resources for teachers, students and parents. Nearly every classroom in the state of Arizona has access to ASSET’s content.

The KBAQ Production Studio, another service of KAET, produces audio programming featuring local and regional classical music artists. These recordings are presented for broadcast on KBAQ-FM.

About ASU

KAET is licensed to the Arizona Board of Regents for an on behalf of Arizona State University. ASU serves the State of Arizona from four interrelated campuses. These campuses are located in Tempe, Mesa, West Phoenix/Glendale and downtown Phoenix. ASU is the largest university in Arizona and one of the top three in the U.S. ASU is the highest producer of graduates in the state. The ASU campuses are close to an abundance of social and cultural activities, collegiate and professional sporting events, shopping, museums and a variety of housing alternatives.
