Family Friday: ‘Finding Your Roots’ and ‘Billy the Kid’

Gather your loved ones for an evening of programs on Arizona PBS the whole family will enjoy. Start at 8 p.m. with an episode of “Finding Your Roots” that features Patricia Arquette, Julianne Moore and the late U.S. Sen. John McCain. Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. helps the three uncover family stories they’d never heard before. Then at 9 p.m., look for the man behind the myth of Billy the Kid.

8 p.m. Finding Your Roots “War Stories”

Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. explores the mysteries, surprises and revelations hidden in the family trees of popular figures. This Friday, uncover a long history of military service in the families of Patricia Arquette, Julianne Moore and John McCain, and how this has instilled in each of them an enduring spirit of strength and integrity. Watch for a brand new season of “Finding Your Roots” beginning in January 2019 on Arizona PBS.

9 p.m. Wild West “Billy the Kid”

Escapologist, lover, joker, father, charmer – everyone loved Billy. By the time William Bonney died at the age of 21, he had killed six men. Drawing from original letters written by Billy himself and official government records, this episode reveals an amazing truth and why today the governor of New Mexico is considering a pardon for the Wild West’s most infamous son.
