Arizona Commission on the Arts is helping the art community rebuild

Alberto Rios talks with Jaime Dempsey with the Arizona Commission on the Arts about helping the community rebuild. The Commission applied for grants and asked the Governor for help to offer monetary support to the state’s art community. We’ll find out what the current state of arts in Arizona is and what the future holds.
Dempsey says the most difficult aspect of the pandemic is that there’s no prospective hope for when this will be over. Most importantly, no one can say when habits will reform. She thinks it’ll be awhile before people will want to go enjoy art again.
The amount of people that applied for the Arizona Commission on the Arts’ artist support was overwhelming. Many people were struggling to find groceries and be able to afford basic amenities. Dempsey believes that the arts seem to be overlooked, despite its huge impact on the community and the economy.
