Sinema’s run for Senate shakes up Phoenix

More from this show

Last week, Rep. Krysten Sinema announced her decision to run against Sen. Jeff Flake in 2018, a decision that has set off a chain reaction in Arizona politics.

One week after Sinema’s announcement, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton announced that we would run for Sinema’s seat in Congress. Almost immediately after Stanton went public with his decision to run for Congress, Phoenix Councilmember Daniel Valenzuela released a video announcing that he will run for Mayor of Phoenix. Other members of the Phoenix City Council are anticipated to run as well, which could leave multiple seats on the council up for election.

Jessica Boehm, Phoenix City Hall reporter for the Arizona Republic, joined Arizona Horizon to discuss the announcements, and offer her insights as to what might happen to Phoenix’s political landscape.
