US considers ending ban on uranium mining near Grand Canyon
Nov. 22, 2017
A new proposal has been put forth by the Forest Service seeks to end a ban on uranium mining in northern Arizona, a move conservationists believe would be detrimental to the environment.
The proposal was made after President Trump signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to end restrictions on energy production. This order by the President is part of a larger initiative to rollback environmental regulations relating to climate change.
Carletta Tilousi, a member of the Havasupai Tribal Council, says mining for uranium near the Grand Canyon will contaminate drinking water in the area.
