Innovation zone for borderlands

A wide-ranging development plan has been proposed for the land along the U.S.-Mexican border. The plan, called the Future Energy, Water, Industry and Education Park initiative, has concepts for developing the border area by bringing energy and water resources, education, farming, business opportunities and jobs to the region. This innovation zone would consist of a series of industrial parks to support testing, production and deployment of technologies and systems to meet needs for energy, water and food in both Mexico and the U.S. The plan is being developed by a consortium of some 30 scientists and engineers, including two Arizona State University professors. We talk to Ronald Adrian, an ASU Regent’s professor, about the borderlands plan.
