The legalities of a “vaccine passport”

James Hodge, a professor at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and Director of the Center for Public Health Law and Policy at Arizona State University, discussed the legalities and ideas behind a vaccine passport. He discussed how we need a passport to get into other countries and even certain shots.

We also looked at what you should do with your card. Don’t laminate it, in case we need boosters. Take a photo of it so you have that. But don’t post photos on social media as people can steal your identity and also the card info.

We talked about what a vaccine passport is. He said it is a passport that helps you get back to life. He said there are airlines and cruises that are checking vaccine status. He said there are universities that are going to be requiring it in the fall. 

We talk about Governor Ducey and his words on vaccine passports. Hodge said Ducey’s statements are “highly contrary” to guidance that others have put out.

He also explains what to do with our vaccine cards. He said to keep it, protect it, take pictures of it (front and back). He said the electronic copy is important. He said ultimately hang on to it for a while. We talked about getting the laminated and why it is bad.

He said you can expect COVID vaccines like the flu vaccine. He believes the vaccine card will be important for the next year, maybe not forever. He also explained that other nations may expect the vaccine to get in their nation.
