Journalists’ Roundtable: 05 14 21: State Senate Audit, Change to Early Voting List

More from this show

Time now for the Journalists’ Roundtable and this week we focus on the State Senate’s recount of Maricopa County President and U.S. Senate votes, along other headlines of the week. Our guests: Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services and Steve Goldstein of KJZZ Radio.

This week’s Journalists’ Roundtable covered:

  • State Senate Audit
  • Senate Wants to Hear from County
  • Change to Early Voting List
  • Federal Jobless Benefits

State Senate Audit

Steve Goldstein: “We at least are going to get a break… sort of I guess, for a little bit as we have high school graduations coming in….the ballots have been put somewhere, we hope somewhere safe. We’ve heard that, on the fair grounds they’re being put past the cattle area.”

Howie Fischer: “Ken Bennett has been saying a lot of things that he later turns out doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The guy was supposed to be the Senate liaison…sometimes I think that he’s finding out afterwards what’s happening.”

Change to Early Voting List

Steve Goldstein: “They took the word permanent out of it. Now it’s the active early voting list. The idea is that if you haven’t voted in either of the last two election cycles… and you haven’t used your early ballot, why are we mailing you one.”

Howie Fischer: “A lot of the voters who are low income or people of color do not have that high efficacy nature to them. So it’s not that they don’t know how to vote, it’s that they’re not quite used to it the same way as many other republican voters are. That’s the big concern.”
