Journalists’ Roundtable 06-25-21: State budget approval, Attorney General candidates

More from this show

Time now for the Journalists’ Roundtable, and for a look at the Attorney General candidates and the most recent updates on the state budget, we welcome Andrew Oxford, from the Arizona Republic, and Julia Shumway, from Arizona Capitol Times.

This week’s journalists’ roundtable covered:

  • State Budget
  • Budget Amendments
  • AG Candidates Announce
  • Bolick Announces for Secretary of State

Budget Amendments

Andrew Oxford: “We’ve seen amendments to also set aside $500,000 for the task force to investigate social media companies. This comes after one law maker was banned.”

Julia Shumway: “The Governor vetoed 22 bills right before the legislature went on a two-week vacation at the end of May. And, in Arizona history, the legislature has only overridden a governor’s veto twice. this may be the third time this has ever happened.”

AG Candidates Announce

Andrew Oxford: “You got Mark Brnovich running for U.S. Senate so that’s opened a way for candidates to come forward, and it’s going to be a crowded race.”

Julia Shumway: “Kris Mayes… has always been a pretty moderate middle of the road type of candidate, and I think Democrats, at least more moderate Democrats, are welcoming her to this race.”
