The travel volume you can expect for July 4th

July 4th is just a few days away. This means traveling for many. We talked with Sergio Avila, a Spokesperson from AAA Arizona about what we are seeing when it comes to travel, now with people vaccinated and things opening up. Do people feel safe enough to travel, whether it is in the sky or on the ground?

We also considered the Memorial day travel volume and how it may compare to the 4th of July. We also look at gas prices. Avila said travel is “rebounding”. He said they are expecting a lot of people to be traveling this weekend. He said they are pretty much right back at the pre-pandemic level.

He said about 91% of the people that will be traveling this weekend will be doing so in their car. He said if you are planning a road trip, know that the roads will be crowded. He also said gas prices will be high. They are the highest they have been in 7 years for independence day weekend.

Air travel prices have actually gone down for the 4th of July weekend. He said in airports, there is a staffing shortage, so get to the airport early. We also talked about the rental car industry. There is a rental car shortage because they were hit so hard during the pandemic.

Before the pandemic, you could rent a car for 30 to 40 dollars a day. Now you are spending hundreds, Avila said. He also advises you to stay on top of your travel plans, like reservations and more, so you can have a good trip and have “all the information you need to be prepared for the trip.”

We also look at other nations and what it looks like for traveling outside of the United States. We discussed what to be prepared for. He said it is important to “do your homework”. He said people want to get out there. They missed vacations last year, and people are ready to vacation.
