“Kismet”: A new thriller based in Sedona

More from this show

A new thriller called “Kismet” takes place in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. The author, Amina Akhtar, came on Arizona Horizon to talk about the release. The book is due out August 1.

Kismet is about lifelong New Yorker Ronnie Khan, someone who thought she would never leave Queens. She was never an “aim high, dream big” person—until she met socialite wellness guru Marley Dewhurst.

Seduced by the dream of finding her best self, Ronnie makes for the desert mountains of Sedona, Arizona. There, Ronnie experienced healing yoga, transcendent hikes and epic juice cleanses. But things quickly turned dark when health gurus around town start turning up murdered. Soon, Ronnie has reason to fear for her own life.

Reviews

Critics have already given the thriller Kismet rave reviews. Kirkus Reviews calls it an “amusing takedown of influencer culture.” And Publishers Weekly calls Akhtar a “talented author.” Oprah Daily calls it “Twisty, sardonic.
