Arizona PBS to broadcast first Clean Elections gubernatorial debate

More from pressroom

Arizona PBS will host the first gubernatorial debate between Republican incumbent Doug Ducey and Democratic candidate David Garcia on Monday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Arizona Clean Elections Commission, this hourlong debate will be televised live on Arizona PBS, with a replay at 10 p.m.

The debate will be moderated by “Arizona Horizon” host Ted Simons.

The gubernatorial candidates also will debate on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in Tucson, Arizona.

“It’s an hourlong debate that will touch on a variety of issues, ranging from education to the economy to border concerns,” Simons said. “Our format encourages back and forth between the candidates, so voters should get a good look at what these two candidates stand for and how they conduct themselves. I’m looking forward to it.”

All Clean Elections debates will be posted online. The debates will be available on Arizona PBS’ website immediately following each event and on the Clean Elections website within 72 hours following each debate. The videos will remain online for voters to watch throughout the election season. For more information visit the Citizens Clean Elections Commission website: www.azcleanelections.gov.

A media room will be set aside where credentialed members of the media can view the debates. Audio and video feeds for media will be made available. Candidates may make themselves available for media interviews following the debates. Media check-in will be located on the fifth floor of the Cronkite School building.

The Citizens Clean Elections Act was passed by voters in 1998 to promote participation in the political process and to ensure Arizona’s politics are free from corruption. The Act provides funding for public and voter education.

For more than 35 years, “Arizona Horizon” has focused on in-depth coverage of issues of concern to Arizonans. The award-winning nightly public affairs program focuses on politics, consumer affairs, the environment, business and health, among other topics.
