ICE 287(g) Law Enforcement Program

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano imposed strong new standards for 287(g), a federal program that lets local police enforce immigration laws. Napolitano’s new guidelines say the priority is catching and deporting dangerous criminals in the country illegally, not going after illegal immigrants who commit minor offenses.
