Phoenix School Helping Refugee and Immigrant Students Adjust to the U.S.

More from this show

Valencia Newcomer School, a school in north Phoenix, is helping students find their voices in a new environment.

Valencia, which is part of the Alhambra School District, helps students cope with the move to the United States. Teachers learn students’ education levels and cater to their needs individually.

Teachers explained that when students first arrived, they were hesitant and afraid to learn English. However, now students are teaching other students and learning how to build confidence in the process.
