Honoring fallen heroes through American Gold Star Mothers

More from this show

American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. dates back to 1928 and was founded for mothers and families who’ve lost sons and daughters during their service in the military.

The organization does volunteer work with Veterans’ hospitals and provides emotional support for each other.

Diane Brown is the Department Treasurer and Central Arizona Chapter President of the American Gold Star Mothers. Brown is also the mom of SSG Alexander W. Conrad. Conrad joined the Army in 2010, but died in Somalia as a result of enemy indirect fire on June 8, 2018, at the age of 26. Brown joined us to talk about the work of American Gold Star Mothers.

Brown roughly knew of the organization before joining, she had heard of them from being born in Arizona, she said “never in a million years” she thought she would be one.

Brown said they have some great partners, a large one is Coachella, an annual music festival in California, they put on a car show and the donations go straight to American Gold Star Mothers. Along with support, the organization does their part as well.

Locally, Brown said the organization either supports “anything from the VFW up in Prescott Valley to an individual veteran down here in Phoenix that was recently in a car accident.”

“We really do feel like our mission is to continue on with our sons and daughters service to the country,” Brown said.

For requests, you can visit their website and contact the officers of the Arizona department of American Gold Star Mothers or other states as well.
