Primavera Online School® and Arizona PBS are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Writing Contest. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade were invited to imagine The Ultimate Field Trip by writing and/or illustrating a fiction or nonfiction story. The individual entry winners were awarded:

• Third place: 3D drawing pen

Winners were also able to join us for a celebration of their work at Arizona PBS’ studios, where they met children’s book author Tia Perkin, Art Director at Arizona PBS, who read the award-winning book “Hall-O-Ween!” for us.

Tia Perkin is a three-time Emmy®-nominated graphic artist turned author and illustrator. Her first children’s book, “Two!”, was written for her twin sons when they were only two years old. Inspired by a double-helping of toddler hijinx, Perkin weaved together silly rhymes and fun sounds to engage the littlest of listeners in her story.

She has continued the series with “Three!”, and the new holiday favorite “Christmas!”

The winners entered a drawing for a Daniel Tiger plush toy, enjoyed some adorable “Sesame Street”-themed cupcakes and received their prizes!

Through this contest, we met our goal of promoting literacy, creativity, writing skills and creating excitement about education in our community.
