Pilot program reduces time to clear freeway wrecks

More from this show

A three-year pilot program funded by the Maricopa Association of Governments and the Arizona Department of Transportation has reduced the time it takes to clear a freeway crash by more than an hour. The program moves Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers inside the ADOT Traffic Operations Center, allowing them to monitor traffic incidents through nearly 300 ADOT cameras. When a crash occurs, the troopers can immediately begin procedures to clear the wreck. Derek Arnson from the ADOT Traffic Management Group and Captain John Paul Cartier of the DPS Highway Patrol Division will tell us more.
