Healing benefits of poetry
March 3, 2020
The arts and medicine have a long collaborative history – think Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing of man or music therapy for Alzheimer’s patients. A class at ASU’s Barrett Honors College examines the connection between poetry and medicine and its healing benefits. Students learn about doctors who write poems and poets whose work focuses on the medical world. The students then become the teachers and hold seminars for doctors and nurses to teach them how to incorporate poetry into their everyday work lives for themselves and their patients.
