Black Theatre Troupe remembers John Lewis

Our look at the life and legacy of the late Civil Rights icon John Lewis continues with David Hemphill of the Black Theatre Troupe.
Hemphill says the best thing theatres can do right now is bring back old civil rights plays. He feels this is important to educate people on the historic times. Lewis’s legacy is one that the group hopes to show in their performances.
This year the Black Theatre Troupe is celebrating their 50th year anniversary. Since the groups start in 1970 they have provided training, employment, and performance opportunities for multi-ethnic and underserved artists.
Furthermore, the group hopes to be back to performing in September.
