What our donors are saying

Ed from Sagewood said:
“It has turned out that Arizona PBS is even greater than I thought it was. Not only because of the programs, but the standards by which they live by. We need them. We need more like them. I wish for others, when you have anything of value to give, to look to Arizona PBS. They’ll do it efficiently, and you will be very pleased that you did.”
If you had a positive experience donating your vehicle, we invite you to share with friends and family who might also be interested in supporting the mission of Arizona PBS. Every donation helps us continue to educate, inform and inspire communities across Arizona.

Is my vehicle donation eligible for a tax deduction?
Vehicle donations are charitable contributions benefitting Arizona PBS through Arizona State University Foundation (EIN: 86-6051042), a qualified 501(c)3 charity. Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of charitable contributions.

What does Arizona PBS do with the vehicles?
When a vehicle is donated to Arizona PBS, its condition determines how it will be sold. A local mechanic assesses and, when possible, makes repairs to maximize the vehicle’s value before it is sold. If the vehicle is in good shape after servicing, it may be sold to a private buyer to generate the highest return. Vehicles that are still operable but less valuable might be sent to auction, while those that are no longer running or beyond repair are typically sold to a scrap yard for parts or metal. In all cases, the proceeds help support Arizona PBS’s programming and community services.
Do I get a receipt for my donation which shows how much money my car raised for Arizona PBS?
You will be mailed a receipt showing the amount your donated vehicle brought in at auction or $500, whichever is greater. You should expect to have your receipt of sale about four to eight weeks after you donate your vehicle.
Can I appraise the value of my vehicle before I donate it to Arizona PBS?
Many factors can contribute to the final selling price of any vehicle, including the make, model and year of your car as well as any mechanical or physical damage to the vehicle that could affect its value. Arizona PBS’s vehicle donation representatives cannot guarantee the final selling price, which is your charitable contribution to Arizona PBS.
My car hasn’t run in years. Can I still donate it?
We accept vehicle donations of all conditions. Your vehicle doesn’t need to run, but you will need proof of ownership.
I donated my car several weeks ago, but I have not received my complimentary membership. When should I expect to receive it?
It may take up to six to eight weeks from the day your vehicle is picked up to the time you receive your Arizona PBS membership benefits, depending how quickly your vehicle is sold.
How will my car be picked up?
We will arrange to have your vehicle towed away on a scheduled date previously agreed upon with you. We will NOT pick up a vehicle without first contacting you.
How can I schedule a pickup?
Please call us at 480-901-2002, or send an email to [email protected], and we will get the process started.
What about car donation tax laws in effect as of Jan. 1, 2005?
Your vehicle donation is still tax deductible and will fall into one of these categories: 1). For low value vehicle donations, you can claim the fair market value up to $500 without any additional paperwork besides the receipt we will provide at the time of pick up. 2). If you donate a car that is worth more than $500, your deduction will be limited to the actual sale price of your car donation. If your vehicle is sold, all proceeds will benefit Arizona PBS, a 501(c)(3) charity. You will be provided with a receipt stating the final sale price of your vehicle within 30 days of the sale of your donated car. We will work to get top dollar for your car donation.
How do new laws affect my tax deduction?
Donors are no longer responsible for determining the deductible value of their donation. Instead, they will receive IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats and Airplanes if the proceeds from the sale exceed $500, stating the amount of the gross proceeds from the sale of the donated vehicle. The amount listed on IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats and Airplanes will be the gross proceeds of the deductible donation.
Will I get a tax receipt for my donation?
Yes, our driver will issue a receipt at the time of pick up. This is not your final tax receipt, unless the sale of your vehicle does not exceed $500. This initial acknowledgement will indicate your name as well as the year, make, model and condition of the car you are donating. It will be your only receipt if your vehicle sells for less than $500. An IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats and Airplanes will be mailed to you within 30 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds received from your car, provided your vehicle sold for more than $500. This will be your tax receipt for your charitable contribution.
How is the value determined on the vehicle donated?
The value is determined by the gross proceeds raised from the sale of the donated vehicle. You no longer have the burden of determining the value yourself.
How do donation laws affect the process for Arizona PBS/KAET?
Arizona PBS has additional paperwork in reporting the gross proceeds raised from the sale of the vehicle to the donor and IRS. The process of obtaining the cash donation from the vehicle remains the same.
What can I claim as a deduction?
According to tax law effective January 1, 2005, if the claimed value of the donated vehicle exceeds $500, the taxpayer is limited to the gross proceeds of the sale.
What if my car is valued over $5,000?
Effective Jan. 1, 2005, you are no longer required to have vehicles appraised. The value you may claim will be the amount of gross proceeds received from your vehicle.
What is the partnership between Arizona PBS and the Arizona Humane Society (AHS)?
Arizona PBS partners with the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) to process vehicle donations in support of our station. This partnership allows us to benefit from AHS’s expertise in handling donated vehicles. Arizona PBS receives the majority of the proceeds from each vehicle sold. The remaining portion supports the Arizona Humane Society’s efforts in managing the donation process, including vehicle pickup, repairs, title transfer and sale. This partnership ensures that your donation has the greatest possible impact.
Who handles the vehicle donation process?
The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) manages the entire vehicle donation process on behalf of Arizona PBS. This includes scheduling vehicle pickups, coordinating any necessary repairs, processing title transfers and overseeing the sale of vehicles.
Why does Arizona PBS partner with Arizona Humane Society (AHS) for vehicle donations?
We are grateful to partner with AHS because of their professionalism and commitment to getting the highest possible value for each donated vehicle. Their end-to-end handling of the process ensures a smooth and efficient experience for donors, while maximizing support for Arizona PBS programming.
