Professor speaks on the link between metabolism and age

With age also comes a slower metabolism. This is a results of changing hormones, daily habits and muscle mass.
The change, or rather a decrease in muscle mass, is one of the biggest factors of why metabolism slows with age. One way experts are suggesting to offset this muscle mass loss is strength training to maintain muscle, support balance, stability and long-term health.
Diet also plays a role in metabolism. Experts shared that being in tune with your body while following MyPlate guidelines is best way to have one’s diet support their metabolism. Experts also stress that metabolism is unique to each individual and is based on things both in and out of one’s control.
Professor Robin DeWeese, a dietician and nutritionist at Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the link between metabolism and age.
Put simply “Metabolism is the cellular process in the body,” DeWeese said.
