Abortion measure to be put on upcoming ballot
April 17
The Arizona for Abortion Access, a coalition of abortion rights organizations, has now collected enough signatures for a measure to be put on the upcoming election ballot where voters will be able to decide on abortion access in the state.
On April 9, 2024, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled in a 4-2 decision to uphold an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions in the state. But if the measure, called the “Arizona Rights to Abortion Initiative,” passes, then an amendment will be made to the Arizona Constitution to establish the fundamental right to abortion, making abortion legal until the point of fetal viability.
