Independent Lens presents ‘Space: The Longest Goodbye’

Monday, May 6 at 9 p.m. – Members can stream early on Arizona PBS Passport!

NASA’s goal to send astronauts to Mars would require a three-year absence from Earth, during which communication in real time would be impossible due to the immense distance.

Meet the psychologists whose job is to keep astronauts mentally stable in outer space, as they are caught between their dream of reaching new frontiers and the basic human need to stay connected to home.

Catherine “Cady” Coleman is a former NASA astronaut and a former U.S. Air Force Colonel. Coleman has spent more than 180 days in space and participated in a six-month long space exploration to the International Space Station.

When on Earth, Coleman is a Professor of Practice  in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University.
