ASU student launches Survivors’ Power with Phoenix Suns support
March 6
ASU student Gabrielle Foote started a nonprofit called Survivors’ Power to award four scholarships per year to anyone seeking treatment from The Meadows Behavioral Healthcare.
On March 2, 2025, at the Phoenix Suns game, the Suns announced they were making Survivors’ Power the nonprofit of the night. Thanks to the Phoenix Suns’ support, the groundbreaking scholarship program will officially launch in May 2025, providing financial assistance for sexual trauma survivors seeking critical mental health care at The Meadows.
Gabrielle Foote, founder of Survivors’ Power, is a senior at ASU, a loving wife and a mother of two. Her journey began when a close friend, a survivor of sexual violence, struggled to afford care at The Meadows due to a lack of insurance coverage. Foote joined us on “Arizona Horizon” to talk more about the nonprofit.
With the help from the Phoenix Suns’, Survivors’ Power can select four people to sponsor at The Meadows with $12,300. The scholarship is available to anyone in need of treatment for sexual violence starting at the minimum age of 13 years old. Going forward, their goal is to sponsor two teens and two adults a year.
Foote said she picked The Meadows as the particular clinic because she knows the quality. She described them as “phenomenal,” however they are expensive.
“Sexual violence has a huge stigma, it’s hard for people to not just talk about but come forward and so, the more I’ve been doing this and people understand that there’s 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are survivors and how prevalent it is, the easier it is for survivors to come forward and then want to seek help,” Foote said.
She has learned that sexual violence does not discriminate and can happen to anyone.
