Public television icon Fred Rogers once said, “It’s easy to say, ’It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”

Those people, and their innovative efforts to make a positive impact on our world, are the focus of Arizona PBS’ new series, “Resolve to Solve with Miles O’Brien.” Premiering in mid-August, this science-focused series will be watched far beyond the borders of Arizona as PBS is including it in the network’s national Wednesday night lineup, which includes viewer favorites “Nature” and “NOVA.”

Broadcast as one-hour episodes starting August 19, 2026, “Resolve to Solve” follows veteran science journalist Miles O’Brien as he travels the world to meet the optimists, innovators and true believers who are tackling some of the most urgent challenges of our time, and refusing to give up until they find answers.

“This is a series about the power of human ingenuity, and the quiet, stubborn conviction that even the hardest problems are worth solving,” said O’Brien.

The series opens with two stories that prove big solutions can come in small packages. A red seaweed fed to cattle in tiny amounts can slash methane emissions by more than 90%. And beavers, once nearly hunted to extinction, are quietly reshaping the American West, building wetlands that fight drought and wildfire with nothing more than mud, sticks and instinct.

Beyond its first episode, “Resolve to Solve” explores ongoing efforts to build a sea curtain in Antarctica, combat extreme heat, adopt cleaner power sources, restore disrupted ecosystems and more.

Watch “Resolve to Solve” Wednesdays at 9 p.m. starting August 19 following “NOVA” at 8 p.m. Although “Resolve to Solve” will be presented in one-hour segments to public television viewers nationwide, those who prefer digital platforms will be able to stream the series in half-hour episodes on the PBS YouTube channel and on the PBS app.
