The Sahara is rapidly expanding south, engulfing cities and erasing centuries of culture in Africa’s Sahel. Gulnaz discovers a wave of resilience despite the crisis. In Mauritania, scholars battle encroaching dunes to save ancient Islamic manuscripts. In Senegal, Muslim and Christian communities are reviving ancestral farming to heal the land and economy. And in Ethiopia, sacred church forests act as vital seed banks, preserving the biodiversity needed to restore the entire region.
