Family-friendly Arizona PBS KIDS Day scheduled for Feb. 17

Daniel Tiger and Katerina Kittycat, Peg + Cat, Curious George, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Word Girl are all coming to downtown Phoenix to hang out with families at a special free event hosted by Arizona PBS.

Families are invited to Arizona PBS KIDS day, a festive celebration of lifelong learning in downtown Phoenix. Registration is now open for the event that includes interactive activities for participants of all ages.

The festival is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Civic Space Park. The free tickets are available at azpbs.org/kidsday.

“We’re excited to welcome the community to our front yard in Civic Space Park,” said Arizona PBS General Manager Mary Mazur. “We have a long history of providing quality, educational programming for all ages. This special day is a great way to expose families throughout the Valley to our outstanding educational content and outreach.”

In addition to character meet and greets, families will have the chance to participate in a variety of attractions, including arts and crafts, performances by the Phoenix Children’s Chorus and the Phoenix Girls Chorus, a safety rodeo and character parades at the beginning and end of the festival.

Children will have the chance to:

• Solve “chicken problems” with Peg + Cat
• Build vocabulary with Word Girl
• Sing songs with Daniel Tiger
• Imagine outdoor adventures with Nature Cat
• Read with Cat in the Hat

This year, Arizona PBS KIDS Day will celebrate the launch of a new show, “Pinkalicious & Peterrific,” on PBS KIDS. The new animated series, based on the bestselling book series “Pinkalicious,” encourages children to explore the arts and spark creativity. The series also will include digital content such as online games, classroom-ready material and an interactive app.

“Opportunities to celebrate new children’s programming characters don’t come about very often,” said Kimberly Flack, associate general manager of educational outreach. “This show is based on the beloved children’s books by Victoria Kann and emphasizes the importance of visual and musical arts.”

The Arizona PBS KIDS Day is open to the public. All designated visitor lots on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus will be open and free on the day of the event. The ASU bag policy for events will be implemented during the festival for safety purposes. More information on what participants are allowed to bring to the event can be found here.

Arizona PBS launched KIDS Day in 2017 as a way to celebrate the launch of its 24/7 children’s channel. More than 8,000 attendees registered for the inaugural event.

Arizona PBS KIDS is a channel that features an array of popular PBS KIDS programming to help young children master important skills, ranging from reading and basic math and science to problem-solving and emotional skills. The programs focus on innovative, impactful programs designed for children from preschool through early elementary school to develop a strong educational foundation.
