New texting and driving ban in Arizona

More from this show

It is now illegal to text and drive in Arizona unless using a hands-free device. We got the specifics on what drivers can and can’t do with their phones and other devices from Marc Lamber, an attorney with Fennemore Craig. The law has been a long time coming with Arizona being number 48 in banning texting and driving. The law passed back in April 2019 but the law is in full effect as of now. Law enforcement was issuing warnings but now they will give tickets to lawbreakers.

Lamber says the important thing to note is that the law is a primary offense. This means that the police can pull you over simply for using your phone while driving, you do not need to do anything wrong. Hands free devices are the exception.
