A Pleasant Sight in the Valley

More from this show

It’s one of the most iconic sights in the Valley of the Sun and is known for its famous Hole in the Rock. The magnificent “holy” red butte was created millions of years ago, shaped and carved out by eons of erosion, and rests in the center of Papago Park.

Thousands of hikers from Arizona and around the world walk where the ancient Hohokam culture used to walk. The Hohokam lived all around this area thousands of years ago, and a great deal of history has come to pass here.

Today, Papago is home to beautiful, picturesque red sandstone buttes and is nestled near the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Garden.

If you’re looking for great outdoor recreation just minutes from downtown, look no further, where dozens of wildlife species surround several acres of stocked fishing lagoons. There are also some highly-rated climbing, hiking and biking trails for all skill levels.

The beauty of the sandstone buttes and desert plant life here, just minutes from America’s fifth largest city, makes Papago Park a great getaway any time of the day or any time of the year.

Also in this episode, we’re sailing in the desert! Believe it or not, it does exist. Lake Pleasant is pretty spectacular and won’t disappoint. We’re hiking along the Wild Burro Trail and checking out petroglyphs right here in our backyard.
