2023 breaks record for heat-related deaths in Maricopa County

Last Wednesday, Maricopa County confirmed at least 645 people succumbed from heat-associated deaths in 2023.

The report found that out of those 645 people, at least two-thirds were over the age of 50, and many of them were experiencing homelessness.

The rate of heat-related deaths for Maricopa County in 2023 is 50% higher than it was in 2022, making for a second consecutive year of record-breaking deaths in the county associated with heat.
