Dreams Do Come True

More from this show

On this episode of “Check, Please! Arizona,” guests enjoyed tastes from all over the world at three local Arizona restaurants with chefs who pursued their dreams of opening their own restaurants.

Guest Kelli Donley Williams selected Casa Corazon. Owner Javier Verdugo said the recipes are inspired from the flavorful dishes he enjoyed when visiting south Mexico. Originally built in the 1930s, Verdugo said he, alongside his son, remodeled the house into what it is today. Now guests can expect a warm and inviting atmosphere to enjoy their relaxing lunch. When the sun goes down, Verdugo said dinner guests can expect a more romantic atmosphere, fit for couples.

Next, guest Joe Gregory selected his favorite restaurant of 20 years, RigaTony’s. Owner Mike Lopercio said RigaTony’s is inspired by restaurants he loved when visiting Little Italy districts in Boston and New York. From the dressings to the meatballs, everything on the menu is made from scratch. Lopercio said they always strive to make the restaurant the best it can be, which helped keep RigaTony’s successful 31 years after its opening.

We finish off the episode with guest Ashley Flores’ pick, Local Jonny’s Tavern and Café. Jonny Oughterson, co-owner of the restaurant, said Local Jonny’s feels like a family gathering where people can enjoy good company and even better meals. On Friday and Saturday nights, Oughterson said guests can come and enjoy live music, adding it’s important to prioritize and support the local community.
