Good Times
April 9
On this episode of “Check, Please! Arizona,” guests enjoyed lively atmospheres and even better meals. Once guests walk through the door, these restaurants make them feel right at home.
Guest Athena Sanchez selected Cielo Rojo. This Mexican seafood restaurant is owned by Emmanuell Maldonado and takes inspiration from his family’s hometown in Guanajuato, Mexico. He said they prioritize the guest experience and ensure all dishes as cooked to perfection. Maldonado said guests should start off with the ceviche, which is marinated for 24 hours to get the fresh, crisp and citrusy flavor, if visiting for the first time.
Guest Molly Bohannon selected Greektown. Family owned and operated, owner George Vassiliou said they incorporate Greek hospitality into the restaurant. He said there will always be someone to welcome guests at the door and walk them through the menu. If you’re not sure what to try, Vassiliou said to try one of their classic Greek dishes such as the Spanakopita filo dough appetizer.
We finish off the episode with Frank Marazita’s pick, Joe’s Real BBQ. The building was once home to many businesses, such as a lamp factory and church, before it became home to Joe’s Real BBQ. Partner Joe Johnston said he wants to pay homage to Arizona and cooks up his dishes with Arizona ingredients. He said they offer multiple styles of barbecue and sauces so guests can enjoy a variety of flavor.
