Black History Month

More from this show

Artist Antoinette Cauley & reporter Elizabeth Montgomery will discuss being Black women in Arizona, the challenges they have faced, and their hopes for the Black community in Arizona. Antoinette was raised in Mesa and is a rising star in the art world. This past summer, a friend commissioned her to make a painting of author/activist James Baldwin. It was then turned into a nine-stories tall decal that was placed on the side of the friend’s building in Downtown Phoenix as part of Black Lives Matter. Antoinette’s art reflects her life growing up as a Black girl. Elizabeth Montgomery is the arts and culture reporter for The Arizona Republic. She moved here a few years ago from Atlanta and openly has written about her struggle to find people who looked like her.
