Pancreatic cancer awareness for adults under 50

Legendary music producer Quincy Jones recently died of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate among all major cancers.

Recent research finds there is a dangerous gap in knowledge about pancreatic cancer among adults under age 50, which is of grave concern because cases in this age group continue to rise.

An estimated 53% of adults under age 50 said they would not recognize the early signs or symptoms of the disease, while 37% believe there is nothing they can do to change their risk of developing pancreatic cancer.

What are the warning signs, and why is there an increase in the incidence of the disease in people under 50? Dr. Madappa Kundranda, Gastrointestinal Oncologist and Division Chief at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, joined us to discuss.
