The Nash jazz club announces reopening

At the end of May 2024, The Nash jazz club closed its doors to the public to begin work on its renovation and expansion.

Naquana Borrero, Director of Development and Communications at The Nash, joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss its reopening.

Just in time to celebrate its 12th anniversary, The Nash, located in Downtown Phoenix, reopened its doors and debuted a new 3,200-square-foot building, the John Dawson Center for Jazz Education. The club will include a new bar, banquette seating and a new stage.

“The feedback we’ve had so far is people love the new club, and our students are on and practicing at our education center,” Borrero said. “…so that’s everything that we could hope for.

The Nash’s education program had increased by 400%, which led to the creation of the John Dawson Center for Jazz Education.

“The new space allows us to have three rehearsal rooms, and rehearse groups simultaneously, which we were not able to do before with our singular rehearsal space,” Borrero said.

The Nash is named for Phoenix native and internationally renowned drummer Lewis Nash, whom “Modern Drummer” magazine calls “the most valuable player in jazz.” He frequently performs at The Nash and works with student musicians participating in ensembles, jam sessions and other educational activities.

“We have amazing acts coming…we’ve got grammy nominees, and grammy award-winners,” Borrero said, “…so we hope to continue that.”

The grand opening weekend occurred from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, 2024. The Nash is located at 110 E. Roosevelt Street.
