Phoenix Police Immigration Enforcement Policy
Dec. 13, 2007
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon is making changes to a twenty year old Phoenix Police policy regarding immigration status of those accused of a crime. Under the current order police notify federal immigration officials only when a person is accused of a serious crime. The Mayor has appointed a panel of former prosecutors who will look into policy changes and allow police to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement when any law has been violated by a person police suspect to be an undocumented immigrant. One of the panel members, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, talks to HORIZONTE about changes the panel is taking into consideration.
