Benjamin Franklin: “An American”

Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m.

Explore the fascinating life of one of our nation’s revolutionary Founding Fathers in the final part of the documentary series from Ken Burns.

Benjamin Franklin lived a compelling and unique life that helped knit together America as we know it, and “Benjamin Franklin” explores the events in Franklin’s life that made him the iconic figure we know today.

Part two, “An American”, follows Franklin as he leaves London and returns to the colonies amid the Revolutionary War. He becomes an instrumental figure in crafting America’s independence by co-creating the Declaration of Independence, gaining French support in the American Revolution, and eventually negotiating a peace treaty with Britain.

His final years in an independent America are spent creating the Constitution and in a constant battle for the abolition of slavery.
