Stories No One Else Will Tell: ‘Atomic People’ and ‘Atomic Echoes’

Hear the stories of monumental times in history that no one else will tell. August 6 marks the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima with Nagasaki’s anniversary on August 9. These special programs, “Atomic People” and “Atomic Echoes,” feature footage and anecdotes in the voices of those who lived through a monumental time in history.

Combining their personal accounts with archive footage, “Atomic People” features a number of voices from some of the only people left on Earth to have survived a nuclear bomb.

“Atomic Echoes: Untold Stories from World War II” at 11:30 p.m.

Two friends, connected by family histories on opposite sides of World War II, set out to explore the lasting trauma of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. While Japanese hibakusha endure lifelong health complications and psychological scars, American atomic Veterans who witnessed the bombings’ aftermath also struggle with radiation-related illnesses and PTSD.
