Gun advocate: We need to focus on more effective methods for preventing violence

More from this show

The debate for stricter gun laws erupted almost immediately after the mass shooting in Las Vegas took the lives of more than 50 people, but many disagree on what type of regulation would be effective.

Jon Gabriel, editor-in-chief for Riccochet, told Arizona Horizon that gun laws should be evaluated regularly to make sure they serve a purpose. “What I don’t like is the government making changes for the sake of ‘let’s just do something,” said Gabriel, “even if it ends up having adverse effects.”

Gabriel believes the best way to pass purposeful legislation is to look into what causes the majority of gun violence. The most common form of gun violence is suicide, followed by domestic violence and gang-related violence.
