Independent Lens: ‘Belly of the Beast’

The Emmy Award-winning anthology series “Independent Lens” featuring unforgettable people, communities and moments in history returns to Arizona PBS on Mondays at 9 p.m.

Nov. 23: ‘Belly of the Beast’ – The pastoral farmlands surrounding the Central California Women’s Facility, the world’s largest women’s prison, help conceal the reproductive and human rights violations transpiring inside its walls. A young woman who was involuntarily sterilized at the age of 24 while incarcerated at the facility teams up with a human rights lawyer to stop these violations. Watch online or on the PBS app.

Nov. 16: ‘Jonathan Scott’s Power Trip’ – Property Brothers co-host and home-renovation expert Jonathan Scott journeys all across the U.S. to uncover why clean, renewable energy isn’t available to all. While traveling to learn both the obstacles and opportunities for achieving energy freedom, Jonathan talks with conservatives fighting for solar freedom; sits down with farmers struggling to make ends meet; engages coal workers desperate for a new, healthy means of making an income; the Navajo Nation who built a utility-scale solar plant; religious leaders who made a desperate attempt to help meet their community’s energy needs; and politicians at the forefront of the battle for energy freedom. Watch online or on the PBS app.
