Former state representative remembers John Lewis

More from this show

Our look at the legacy of the late Civil Rights icon John Lewis continues with former state representative Cloves Campbell Jr., who spoke with Horizonte’s Jose Cardenas.

In the late 1980s, Cambell Jr. had met Lewis at the Annual Legislative Conference. There he was able to talk with Lewis about the issues that Arizona was facing. One of those issues being about the Martin Luther King holiday which at the time was criticized by some. The passion Lewis brought when it came to civil rights issues was special having partaken in many historic events.

Cambell Jr. says when Lewis walked into any room you could feel his presence. Referencing later everything Lewis had gone through as an activist and a member of congress.

The passing of Lewis comes at a time where many are becoming activists themselves.
