Quacy Smith on his run for Arizona’s 9th Congressional District

Quacy Smith (D) from Arizona’s 9th Congressional District joined “Arizona Horizon” for a one-on-one interview with Ted Simons, host and managing editor. The event was initially planned to be a debate, however, Paul Gosar (R) did not respond to the invitation.

Arizona’s 9th Congressional District covers most of Arizona’s western border and is known as the most Republican district in Arizona. The district covers all of La Paz County, most of Mohave County, most of Yuma County and the western part of Maricopa County.

About 20% of active voters in the district are Democrats, 35% are not affiliated with a particular party, and 45% are Republicans, according to the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office.

Smith is a marine veteran, police officer and federal investigator who hopes to replace Gosar. The incumbent, Gosar, was first elected to represent Arizona’s 9th district in 2010.
