As part of Arizona PBS’ ongoing “AZ Votes 2026” election coverage initiative, a series titled “Candidates in Conversation,” we were joined by the candidates running for Arizona’s 4th Congressional District. Arizona Congressional District 4 is includes locations within Maricopa County, covering parts of Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa and Chandler.
Incumbent Representative Greg Stanton (D) and Dr. Zuhdi Jasser (R) joined us to discuss their campaign priorities.
Each candidate jumped in by describing the most pressing issue in their district. Representative Stanton said it’s the cost of living due to illegal tariffs, while Dr. Jasser argued it’s health insurance premiums.
“The unaffordability of the ‘Unaffordable Care Act’ that members like Congressman Stanton put into place have made it untenable,” Dr. Jasser said.
Dr. Jasser also claimed the U.S. needs to come together. He said the American people can see the country being ripped apart by “disease in Washington D.C.” because of “creatures like Congressman Stanton, and they want change.”
In response, Representative Stanton defended the Affordable Care Act (ACA) because its repeal would leave patients with pre-existing conditions uncovered. Dr. Jasser clarified he does not want to repeal the ACA, but he does want to make it affordable.
