Zur Kate German Restaurant

More from this show

Zur Kate German Restaurant serves authentic German food that is heavy on meat, potatoes and gravy!

In 1979, owner Horst Schlembach bought a one-way ticket to Phoenix and has been here ever since. Zur Kate German Restaurant originally opened in 1983, but Schlembach didn’t become the owner until later.

“Zur Kate means ‘old smokehouse’ in northern Germany,” Schlembach said. “Everybody knows everybody. We don’t make fancy food here; it’s kind of like a homemade atmosphere.”
