Beginner’s Luck: A homage to diners
March 24
Tucked in Old Town Scottsdale, Beginner’s Luck serves guests a variety of dishes throughout the day.
Bernie Kantak, chef and owner, said him and his business partner think of Beginner’s Luck as their homage to diners.
Kantak said eating at Beginner’s Luck reminds him of the meals he shared at his grandmother’s house. He said the space has a cozy atmosphere, leaving guests with the same feelings he had sharing meals at his grandmother’s kitchen.
“I want the guests to feel super happy the whole time they’re here,” Kantak said. “I want them to leave with a full belly and a big smile on their face.”
For brunch, Kantak said his favorite dish is the Luck 7 cereal, which includes blue corn polenta, chia pudding, granola with coconut and pecans, completed with a drizzle of agave syrup.
For dinner, he said, to go along with their variety of dishes, is their bestseller — the chopped salad.
Guest Caryn Lewis said Beginner’s Luck has a nice vibe and, because of their extensive patio, is a perfect place to have a meal outside.
To start off her visit, she had an order of the Dole Whip wings, which blend together sweet and spicy flavors.
Lewis also enjoyed the Not Quite a Cubano sandwich, packed with slow-roasted pork, pimento and pickles, for her entree. She also had the chopped salad as her side.
To top off her meal with something sweet, Lewis had the bread pudding, which she said was both delicious and warm. She said it is just enough for guests to split and enjoy.
Lewis’s pro tip: Go early to try the Lucky Hour
