Be My Neighbor Day Flagstaff

June 3, 2023 • Flagstaff celebrated Be My Neighbor Day Flagstaff with Daniel Tiger. Daniel came all the way to Flagstaff to celebrate being kind, courteous and caring with his newest friends and neighbors. Program Manager Misty Standeford and Senior Education Coordinators Tammy Lee and Mike Gaffney were also there to help the little neighbors make Daniel-Tiger-themed masks and other crafts. It was wonderful to see the community so engaged, with over 200 people of all ages enjoying the evening.

Havasupai Head Start Professional Development

June 9, 2023 • Senior Coordinator Tammy Lee and Program Manager Misty Standeford visited the Havasupai Head Start in Supai, located within the Grand Canyon, to offer the staff professional development and scholarship information. Nine staff members enrolled in the CDA scholarship pathway, with more interested and thinking about how to continue expanding their education.

Writing Contest Celebration

June 10, 2023 • Arizona PBS and Primavera celebrated the winners of the 2023 Writing Contest. Eighteen amazing young authors, along with their families, were honored. Local author Phoebe Fox shared her stories and encouraged the young writers to continue telling their stories. Check out all of our winners, and enjoy their incredible submissions. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Badges and Backpacks

June 17, 2023 • Regional Coordinator Kristine Nishimura and two fabulous volunteers represented Arizona PBS at the Pima County Sheriff’s Badges and Backpacks event. Sonia Guevera and Melissa Herrera, two of the Arizona Early Childhood Workforce Registry scholars, helped Kristine pass out Delta Dental educational materials, prizes and books to over 1,000 people. Not only did visitors receive these amazing materials, but they were also able to see a dental hygienist after stopping by our table. Kristine said it was wonderful to see so many kids excited to get books, and she relayed that “Daniel Tiger Goes to the Dentist” was the crowd’s favorite.

Super Why Reading Camps

June 23, 2023 • Sun Valley Academy at South Mountain celebrated their first batch of Super Readers thanks to their completion of the Super Why Early Literacy Camp. Kindergarten readiness and early literacy skills are an essential part of school readiness and these participants have everything they’ll need for a successful first year of school.

McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Children’s Play Festival

June 24, 2023 • Our team and other amazing station employees participated in the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Children’s Play Festival. We handed out prizes from our prize wheel, read stories, made crafts and caused a lot of smiles. Over 5,000 people stopped by our booth and said hello. Digit from Cyberchase, Clifford, Nature Cat and several other PBS friends were there to make the day amazing!

Alaska Adventures

July 1, 2023 • Alaska PBS invited Arizona PBS to help implement Ready to Learn camps and family workshops in rural Alaska with tribal communities. Senior Director for Education and Community Impact Kim Flack (right), Stephanie McFadden, Alaska PBS (center) and local Boys & Girls Club teacher Gina Wooton spent two days working to get these programs up and running.

Alaska Adventures Part Two

July 12, 2023 • Regional Educational Outreach Coordinator Tammy Lee is busy continuing work with Alaska Public Media to facilitate and train staff members on several programs. In Sand Point, Tammy helped deliver AZPBS KIDS LEARN! and Grow Family and Community Learning. She is also helping to facilitate PBS KIDS Odd Squad Camp for children ages 7 to 12 with the Unga, Pauloff and QTT tribes in rural Alaska.

Tots and Technology

July 18, 2023 • Educational Outreach Program Manager Misty Standeford and Senior Coordinator Tammy Lee were at the Prevent Child Abuse Conference in Glendale. They hosted a workshop entitled “Tots and Technology: Appropriate and Educational Use in an Early Childhood Setting” at the conference which was met with great interest and participation.

Back-to-School Health and Wellness Fair

July 25, 2023 • The Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley held a Back-to-School Health and Wellness Fair. Educational Outreach Regional Coordinator Tammy Lee was there along with My Kids Dentist to provide free dental screenings, school supplies and other family resources. Nature Cat got his very own oral health exam too!

Back to School Health Fair in Colorado City

August 4, 2023 • Program Manager Misty Standeford traveled to Colorado City to host the Healthy Smile Learning event sponsored by Delta Dental and AZPBS Kids Learn!, at the Creek Valley Health Clinic Back to School Fair. Misty, with the help of volunteers and our favorite, red-furred dog Clifford, spread the word about our resources, handed out free dental supplies, books and lots of PBS and Delta Dental swag to over 250 children and families that visited our colorful booth.

Our team participates in local community events around the state, handing out books and resources to families and educators.

Bright by Text is a free parent and caregiver messaging service that sends tips and resources promoting child development via text message.
