“Penny proposal” education tax

Bills have been introduced by the chairs of the state Senate and House education committees to give voters a chance to approve a one-cent sales tax to fund education in our state. The “penny proposal” would modify a 6/10 of a cent sales tax that was put in place by the passage of Proposition 301 20 years ago to provide funding for K-12 schools, universities and trade and workforce programs. Sean McCarthy, Senior Research Analyst for the Arizona Tax Research Association will speak against the tax proposal.
