Journalists’ Roundtable: DeWit resigns, Trump cancels trip to Arizona and more

More from this show

It’s Friday, and that means it’s time for another edition of Journalists’ Roundtable. To discuss this weeks’ top stories we were joined by Jim Small of Arizona Mirror, Mary Jo Pitzl of The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, and Jeremy Duda of Axios Phoenix.

This week’s Journalists’ Roundtable covered:

  • DeWit’s resignation
  • Former President Donald Trump cancels Arizona visit
  • Richer asks Supreme Court to lift stay
  • Tom Horne’s hotline
  • JLBC: Flat tax “primary culprit” for deficit

DeWit’s resignation

Jeremy Duda: “If you have all of the disarray from the past few years, and you add this on top of it, you have to wonder what national Republicans, donors, folks like that are thinking as they look at this situation and say what are we getting ourselves into here.”

Jim Small: “Is she going to be able to walk into any kind of a big donor and talk to them and have a conversation with them about the election and be able to get them to give her campaign money? If everyone is scared they’re going to be recorded when they’re talking to her, people are going to stay away from her.”

Tom Horne’s hotline

Mary Jo: “They got a fair number of calls but I think there were only three that resulted in any kind of probe or any kind of investigation and then we also learned that there were no investigations.”

Ted: “Tens of thousands of calls maybe two dozen were real complaints, Arizona Education Association says not a single teacher has been asked about anything through this hotline.”
