Donald Trump picks JD Vance as Vice President for 2024

Former President Donald Trump has selected Republican Senator JD Vance as his Vice Presidential pick at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Vance, 39, used to be a critic of the former President. Now, Vance is one of Trump’s strongest supporters.

In the 2016 Presidential Election, Vance served as an anti-Trump conservative pundit.

Chuck Coughlin, CEO and President of HighGround, Inc., joined “Arizona Horizon” to discuss the latest updates about the selection.

“I thought with all of this unity conversation, I’m like, here’s a great opportunity to pick Nikki Haley, but he went in this direction. I think this was where he was set because Vance really puts a credible voice on a lot of those Trumpian policies of the underserved in America, the people who are left behind by the economic revolution that has encapsulated America, and that is where his birthplace was. His success was a remarkable story, and he clearly can provide a lot of vigor, and he’s a Veteran,” said Coughlin.

Vance was a critic in the past, making remarks about comparing Trump to Hitler, however, he changed when he ran for the U.S. Senate.

Coughlin said he estimated Vance is thinking, “’I’ve gotten to know the guy. I feel that I can place myself within his tribe and be a voice of economic reason for the rest of the country,’ and I think that’s his calculus. Yale graduate, super smart. Trump talks about tariffs, but Vance is going to talk about tariffs in a way that may be able to be seen as somewhat productive with some parts of the American economy,” Coughlin added.

In addition, Vance is also one of the younger candidates compared to competitors Nikki Haley and Marco Rubio. There’s a generation gap.

“It’s not because he’s generationally skipped. We’ve gone down the road here a bit, and it will also be interesting to see how he digests the end of Pence. I think he’s got to look at Pence as somebody of great character,” Coughlin said.
