Interview with Democrat Timothy Michael Stringham

“Arizona Horizon” sat down with Timothy Michael Stringham, the Democratic candidate for the position of Maricopa County Recorder.

Stringham’s opponent, the Republican candidate and state lawmaker Justin Heap, did not respond when asked to debate. Heap won in a surprise upset in the GOP primary against incumbent Stephen Richer.

The Maricopa County Recorder manages public records, including property documents and governmental information. The recorder is also responsible for maintaining voter registration records and administering early voting, including mailing out early ballots.

Stringham previously served a tour in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. Stringham said he thinks it is important for someone with actual leadership and executive experience to be the one to fill the role of County Recorder.

“I’ve spent 15 years in the Army and Navy as an officer leading soldiers and sailors on four different continents. I’ve managed large projects, I’ve managed large groups of people, I’ve been a liaison with other government agencies but also with foreign governments. I think for someone to actually run the day-to-day of our government, which includes not only the elections but relatively mundane tasks like the recording of deeds and plats, it’s important to have somebody that has a diversity of experience but also leadership experience so they can lead those people on a day-to-day basis,” Stringham said.

Stringham has no previous experience in elected office, and this is his first time running for office. While Stringham admits he may not be the best fit for legislative office, he believes his passion for policy, leadership and teamwork is what can make him a good fit for the role of Maricopa County Recorder.
